NYC Weekly Show Highlights: 04/16 - 04/22

The first taste is free and I'm feeling it. A day in the sun is worth two in the bush, right? Am I crazy or is it just better now? The summer days are still months away but for a split second it was showing us the light. Time to ride that.

Monday, 04/16/18: Once and Future Band, Parrot Dream, Jane Church at The Knitting Factory

Castle Face's token prog band are blowing through our fair city a few days shy of a holiday where all their tunes would make a bunch more sense. But it's nice to brush against glory early and take the sun with ya. If that makes sense to you, this bill is for you. Get there early because the locals are heavy hitters.

Tuesday, 04/17/18: Heavy Traffic, Dad, Daddies, Citris at St. Vitus

If a stackful of chips, beer, pretzels, weed, and old horror flicks were a night of music, this would fit the bill. These bands go together like pins 'n' leather. Chocolate and peanut butter. Ray and Dave. But way fucking heavier.

Wednesday, 04/18/18: James Chance & The Contortions, Yaasss, Chorizo, BB TAY VEE at Bowery Electric

No-wave icons The Contortions are setting the city back thirty ought years to a time when The Bowery Electric would be a downright scary place to trek to. As few bands are brave to play the night before 4/20, take this as your weekend pre-game and get in the mindset early and blow it.

Friday, 04/20/18: Sun Voyager (Record Release) w/ Stuyedeyed at Baby's All Right

The heaviest night of the year gets proper treatment with the fuzz lashing it deserves. Time to stockpile pizza and comics cuz this is a double one-hitter that might legitimately have me off my rocker. Sun Voyager's new record is birthed in style so don't be a fool 'n' miss it.

Saturday 04/21/18: Blackfoot Gypsies, Daddy Long Legs, The Othermen at Mercury Lounge

Oldschool garage rock shenanigans with shakers and striped shirts and Gretsch guitars. 4/21 could easily be the hangover, but this bill is jettisoning us through the weekend so you can keep that high coming and going all the way to...

Sunday 04/22/18: Snakeskin, Crazy Pills, Drug Pizza, Virginia & The Woolves at Alphaville

The medical community recommends a healthy dose of rock 'n' roll for your daily well-being whether it's prescribed (Crazy Pills) or self-medicated (Drug Pizza). Either way, this bill's more potent than nightshade and twice as strong. Lots of hooks to worm into your head so don't be a drag.

Greg Hanson lives in Brooklyn and plays in a bunch of bands, founded King Pizza Records, and goes to a bunch of shows. This might qualify him to write about these shows for Blood Sweat and Beers.
