NYC Weekly Show Highlights: 05/08 - 05/13

Drink from the chalice and rest it upon the sun gods. Skate the surf and surf the wild. It's enchanting to be alive and it's time to just say "fuck it" and put an extra slice of cheese on the burger and go big. Go big.

Tuesday, 05/08/18: Gnarcissists, Playboy Manbaby, Smock, Ted's Dead, Rails at St. Vitus

"Damn" will be what the lucky, unsuspecting bartenders who end up working this one will tell their buds. Cuz this shit is damn. DAMN. Hot damn fuzz riffy tasty horn parts and heabangery snotty hooligans all the bands rule.

Wednesday, 05/09/18: Faux Ferocious, Honduras, Big Bliss at Elsewhere (Zone One)

Those Nashville boys are back up here to pump out mortorik Ramones, southern-style. These bubs have been steadily growing into a behemoth rock 'n' roll extravaganza of big chords and sweaty headbands. All's good in the world when they're around, oh yeah.

Thursday, 05/10/18: Berndsen, Iris Lune, Raindeer at Union Pool

Normally not my cup of tea but this one's too hot not to trot so head up to U.P. for spaced-out pop from here (Brooklyn), there (Balitmore), and everywhere (fucking Iceland).

Friday, 05/11/18: EWEL Presents: A Night for Animals feat. Van Goose, The Lucid Furs, The War on Tom Petty's Drugs, Kissed by an Animal at East Williamsburg Econo Lodge

Gotta love a place that loves a theme and sticks the landing. A curious night for four-legged friends and the showgoers who love them. New bands! Old bands! Bands that feature favorite folks and stuff that'll make ya shake your groove thang.

Saturday, 05/12/18: Ghost Funk Orchestra, Pow Wow!, Jacques le Coque, Free Advice at The Footlight

We're saying goodbye to Ghost Funk's dear singer Gabby (also of Scout Harris) as she departs on a mind-altering, life-changing road trip for like a year. She'll be missed but we're all gunna tear down the house one more time with her. Raise a glass.

Sunday, 05/13/18:  Velveteen Rabbit 7" release w/ Altar Boys, Rose Cologne at Elsewhere (Zone One)

Velveteen Rabbit used to be The Jeanies, but don't be fooled cuz those fools are still poppin' out power pop to pop gum n drink pop to. Consistently one part rock, one part roll, one part syrupy goodness, these pills will make ya feel real good til the end of next week, ya dig?

Greg Hanson lives in Brooklyn and plays in a bunch of bands, founded King Pizza Records, and goes to a bunch of shows. This might qualify him to write about these shows for Blood Sweat and Beers.
