NYC Weekly Show Highlights: 08/28 - 09/01

We're in the waning light (though not waning heat) of summer's glow, but still with a bug in our collective hearts and a candle burning with the heat of a thousand rock 'n' roll bands, we march towards thrashing oblivion.

Tuesday, 08/28/18:  Illiterate Light at Berlin

I don't know if anyone else is playing this, but Harrisonburg, VA's Illiterate Light is good enough to warrant it a suggested show. A ferocious two-piece of rock 'n' roll harmonies and glittering, flying melodies, these dudes are the real deal.

Wednesday, 08/29/18: Future Punx, GRLwood, Shybaby at Trans Pecos

Flat-out and fuzzed-out revved-up rock 'n' roll for a mid-week spike in the charts (something's gotta get your blood flowin'). Fans of loud, nasty, gooey, dancey should pay close attention, as this one's for you lovers.

Thursday, 08/30/18: The Sharp Shadows Tape Release w/ PowerSnap, Kangaroo, Band of Young Saints at Hank's Saloon

The Sharp Shadows have frankly been playing their little tushies off the last year and a half or so and it shows. These dudes blast out catchy, tuneful punk rock shit for those with some feelings and a love of melody. They're puttin out a tape and they're joined by all your favorite rock 'n' rollers for a night ya shouldn't miss.

Friday, 08/31/18: Sun Abduction, ZZZWalk, Rose Cologne, Animal Show, BMP at Sunnyvale

Strap into thine socks for fear of getting 'em knocked off. It's gonna be loud. It's gonna be snotty. It's gonna be a helluva time if you face the ogre and knock its head off and proceed through the thicket of hip-shakery.

Saturday, 09/01/18: Plaid Dracula EP Release w/ Bizarre Sharks, Daddies, The World's Greatest Detective at East Williamsburg Econo Lodge

Bring a change of clothes because even though this is the start of September, the sweat will flow freely and I, for one, plan on headbanging all. night. long. So slap on some spandex, lipstick and glitter and strut your way down to the warehouse district for a night of revelry.

Greg Hanson lives in Brooklyn and plays in a bunch of bands, founded King Pizza Records, and goes to a bunch of shows. This might qualify him to write about these shows for Blood Sweat and Beers.
