The DIY music community can be a beautiful and selfless creature. And on Monday night at Pine Box that was on full display as musicians donated their time and talents to raise money for the family of Luz Gonzalez—a little girl that was killed in a hit and run accident earlier this summer in Bushwick. Zero charges have been filed against the driver. It feels bad and the community is unhappy about it. Sometimes in the music world when bad shit happens the best option seems to be to throw a benefit show. Sure, money won't bring back their daughter, but having a little extra cash to get you through a difficult time is never a bad thing.
Organized by Maria Lina Canales (badass sound lady at Pine Box)—the night featured a solo set from Powersnap's Romi Hanoch, Big Cheese, Dad and Cold Blinds. When it was all said and done the event raised $772, which isn't bad for a Monday. Missed out on this event, but still want to donate? Check out the Go Fund Me that has been set up for the family.
